-mise-en-scene :All the crew are quite dirty looking except Ash, who looks clean and
hygenic compared to all the other crew members, whic puts irony in his name as ash is
usually associated with dirtiness. The flamethrower is symbolic as fire usually represents
cleansing of evil.
-Cinematography :The camera focuses on an extreme close-up on Ripley to make her look like
she is in charge, the flamethrower being put on the table can symbolise Dallas falling when he
was killed by the alien. parkers movement makes him look like he is upset and angry about
what the alien has done to Dallas, he paces back and forth which shows a high level of emotion
-Sound :The flamethrow makes a large crashing sound and is the only thing heard in the room at
the time, this shows that everyone in the room is shocked at Dallas's death, everyones voices
are shaky except Ripleys who speaks relatively calmly to show her leadership for the crew.
-Editing. :The switching from the flamethrower to Parker transits using a jumpcut, to show
That Parker was the one that found the flamethrower, and is angry as tere is nothing there except
the flamethroower. It then focuses on Ripley while she gives her talk about killing the alien,
the camera then ump cuts between the rest of the crew in a montage of shots to show everybodys oppinion
on the situation, except ash who doesn't seem to care too muc, the camera also never jumps to ash
In the whole scene, even when he is talking, to make it look like he is trying to hide something from
the other crew members.

7a-Ripley emerging 1

This is when Ripley begins to interpretate what the readings actually were saying/showing.
This is an early show of Ripley's true character from the start of the film.

Ripley is analysing the readings from what Mother has interpretated while Lambart, Kane and Dallas
are off investigating the strange unknown ship where the signal had came from.

Mise-en-scene:-

lighting- foreground lighting is dark.
background lighting is dim.
more cosy and domestic than scary.

mood/feel:- relaxed and laid-back.Ripley is sitting in the cahir with her foot
up(gives a at home feel) and her hand in her hair after placing down a
cup of coffee. Also the cat(who is grooming himself) gives it a at home/domestic feel.

sound:- can here the wind howling outside but is very faint and overrided by
the sound of Ripley breathing.
noise coming from the computer which is reading the message.(electronic)
technology noise mainly wiht some noise coming from Ripley's movements.
eg the noise that her chair makes when she sits in it (softness) &
and clicking from the buttons and switches she fiddles with.

editing:- camera cuts between the cat(which is grooming itself) and Ripley(who is
sitting in the chair.

Cinematography:- when Ripley first sits down, the camera looks up at Ripley which
gives a sense of Ripley having power over us.
When Ripley is sitting down, the camera is face-on (medium close-up) with Ripley
which gives a sense of equality.
Camera has an extreme close up of the computer screen analysing the message.
Camera also has an etreme close-up of the cat grooming itself.Gives a domestic
feel.

mis-en-scene: it starts of all dark and miserable, untill Ripley enters the mother room, where the atmosphere changes to a more pleasent and warm place, it reminds one of a womb, as in a mothers womb. Sher then turns on the computere and all sorts of lights appear, after she is finished with talking to 'Mother' she realises what has happened, when she enters the room, she comes from the dark and into the light, as if a light bulb went off and she realises what is happening.
cinematograpy: the camera stays at a relatively level position to ripley and the computer, showing that they are equal in power with each other. When Ripley is done talking with the computer the camera suddenly changes to a side view, where ash appears out of nowhere. showing a sense that the camera could be quite human in not knowing where he is.
sound: Its relatively quite through ther whole seen, only keyboard typing can be heard, untill ash enters the room.
editing: The camera cuts back and forth from Ripley and 'mother' untill Ash appears where the camera focuses its attention on Ripley but you can still see that Ash is there.

PCQE 23
--------

Mise-en-Scene
-----------
There is a big contrast between Ripley and her environment as she is wearing white which contrasts with the dark harsh mechanical environment which she is exposed to. Here we see a side to Ripley we had not seen before, she is relaxed and even fragile which is not shown before. But when she puts on the space suit she has not changed her image she is still in contrast between her and her background but now there is also a contrast between her and the alien, as she is white the colour of good and the alien is black a colour we associate with bad.

Editing
-------
The camera moves slowly, steadily and calmly between Ripley and the cat to show a calm and loving relationship between them. Then when the Alien

Cinematography
--------------
The lighting is dim, which makes the scene seem quiet and relaxed but when the light starts flickering it reflects the characters panic and the concern for their safety which the viewer has for the characters.

Sound
-----
Soft music is used to enhance a feeling of warmth and gentleness as Ripley is putting the cat into hyper-sleep. Then when the Alien is noticed dramatic music is used to create an atmosphere of horror and fear. This effect is used very well.

PCQE 9
--------

Mise-en-Scene
------------
There is a clear contrast between the two rooms. The medical room is bright, white and open spaced, whereas the corridor is dark and confined the only light is from the well lit medical room, the light shines through from the viewing window. This contrast is showing a clear separation between what’s happening in the medical room with Dallas and Ash! And the corridor with the rest of the crew.

Editing
-------
The camera moves between Ash and Dallas in the Med-lab and the rest of the
crew outside in the hall. Which shows the viewer that Ash and Dallas have
more power over what goes on with Kane; where as the rest of the crew are
left in the dark as to what is going on. The camera gets extreme close-ups
of Ash, Dallas and Kane to show emphasis on the fact that they are worried
about Kane and when they put him in the x-ray its like they are parents
putting a young child in a cot, which shows concern from Kane and how
valuable Kane is at this point.

Cinematography
--------------
When Dallas and Ash are trying to save Kane, they are rushing about clumsily, in a kind of panic, where-as on the other hand the alien remains in controlled throughout the situation. Here, the alien seems superior, Smarter or equal to the humans and this is shown when the camera is level with kanes head and shows all three of them.
